Get Ready for our 2011 Houston Buddy Walk!
2011 HOUSTON BUDDY WALK - Thank you!! | | THANK YOU
to all the supporters that came out to our 2011Houston Buddy Walk! It was amazing to see so many supporters and volunteers at our walk. We saw some familiar faces and some new ones too! The kids had a blast in our carnival rides and danced the morning away with Amanda’s great songs.
The Imagine the PossAbilitites Area was amazing! We had over 50 bios submitted this year and we hope to continue to grow that number as the years come. Condron Family you guys did a fabulous job! Thank you for being so dedicated and passionate about the Buddy Walk. The arts and crafts area and the playground were full of kids just having a great time. The CS #4371 - Columbian Squires Circle 4371 did a great job keeping the playground area lively with music that kept everyone on their toes dancing.
Opening the event on stage was Katherine Whaley from KHOU channel 11 who did an excellent job in awarding the top fundraising teams and individuals as well as starting our walk. On stage we also had the vibrant steps of the R.E.D. Storm Steppers from Cy–Lakes High school and they were just full of energy! The DSAH Pantomime Troupe was also a complete hit! Thanks to all the Education for Life staff specially Julithé Garret who has dedicated all of this year to polish up our troupe’s performance.
Huge thanks goes out to Amanda Nagurney and her band and family for being a part of our 11the Annual Buddy Walk! Her support as well as 93Q’s was just amazing and we hope to continue this relationship as the years go by.
To all the sponsors, supporters, walkers, vendors, artists, volunteers, The Minute Maid Park and Buddy Walk staff that made this incredible event possible… THANK YOU! As of December 3, 2011 The Buddy Walk had brought in to DSAH $186,281 so that we can continue to provide the much needed programs for our community. | Top Fundraisers for 2011 | |

1) To promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
2) To raise funds locally and nationally for education, research and advocacy programs; and
3) To enhance the position of the Down syndrome community, enabling us to positively influence local and national policy and practice.
The Buddy Walk® was developed by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to bring together a wide range of concerned individuals to reach out to friends, family and co-workers to promote awareness and inclusion for people with Down syndrome.
It has grown from 17 walks to nearly 300 expected in 2011 across the country and around the world. Last year alone, 285,000 people participated in a Buddy Walk! They raised more than $11.2 million to benefit local programs and services as well as the national advocacy initiatives that benefit all individuals with Down syndrome.
The Buddy Walk is a one-mile walk in which anyone can participate without special training. It is a wonderful, heart-warming event that celebrates the many abilities and accomplishments of people with Down syndrome.
Whether you have Down syndrome, know someone who does, or just want to show your support, come and join a Buddy Walk in your local community! | Team Captain Packet Information
