Society of Mobile County will celebrate its annual Buddy Walk® on Saturday, October 20 at Hank Aaron Stadium. The Buddy Walk® was developed by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. The Buddy Walk® has grown from 17 walks in 1995 to nearly 300 walks planned for 2011 worldwide. In 2010, more than $11.2 million was raised nationwide to benefit local programs and services, as well as the national advocacy and public awareness initiatives of NDSS that benefit all individuals with Down syndrome.
The Buddy Walk® is a is
a one-mile walk in which anyone can participate without special training. It is
a wonderful, heart-warming event that celebrates the many abilities and
accomplishments of people with Down syndrome. Come and join us! | REGISTRATION INFO  | | Registration is $15 for everyone, except, individuals with Down syndrome (of any age) will receive one complimentary shirt. Your registration covers the cost of one Buddy Walk® T-shirt and it is your ticket to all the fun activities and food at the walk. We will have music by The Lizards band, inflatables, face painting, games, food, and much more! Mr. Reggie Copeland will be our Grand Marshall and along with our top team, he will be taking steps for a brighter tomorrow for individuals with Down syndrome! You can register here via credit card, PayPal or check. Otherwise, you can register with cash the day of the walk on Saturday, October 20 between 9 and 10 am. We will also have several Buddy Walk® and DSSMC items for sale at the walk. Cash and credit cards will be accepted. Register NOW! | HOW TO REGISTER | | You will need a valid e-mail address for a receipt to be e-mailed to you. You can register now with a credit card, PayPal, or mail us a check before the deadline of October 4th to guarantee a shirt.
| DONATION INFORMATION | | In order to donate, you must register with a valid e-mail address to receive your receipt. If you would like your donation to remain anonymous, simply state so on the Donor Display Name box.
Donations will continue to be accepted even after the walk through this site. Or you may choose to donate at our website www.dssmc.org via PayPal or credit card. Thank you so much for your support! | HOW TO CREATE A TEAM | | The person who initiates the team becomes the team captain and will need to create a log-in and a password to manage your team fundraising site. To customize your fundraising site you will need to log in and then click on "Fundraiser Center" tab. Please watch the Help Videos available at the bottom right hand side of the page. You will be able to share this page with your friends, co-workers and family members through Facebook and e-mail by sharing the address that appears above after you click on your fundraising site. And you will be able to track your fundraising efforts.
The Team that raises the most will have their favorite team photo featured in our 2013 Buddy Walk® billboards and brochures and they will be our Grand Marshals and receive a prize. 2nd, 3rd, and Team with the most walkers - will receive a prize.
Remember that any business sponsorship counts towards your Team Totals, just make sure the business mention your team's name in the sponsorship form. Go Teams!
