9TH ANNUAL BUDDY WALK ®
 
Saturday, October 13, 2012 - 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
at Heartspring - 8700 E. 29th Street North in Wichita

This fun family event is a one-mile walk, followed by food, games, moonbounces, clowns, music, dancing, basket drawings, a teen room, and much more!

A VERY BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the 2012 Wichita Buddy Walk our best Buddy Walk EVER!  Thank you to the Buddy Walk Committee for the many hours involved planning this special day and making last minute adjustments due to the threat of bad weather! Thank you to the volunteers - we could not do this without your help! Thank you to the sponsors and donors for the financial support to host such a fun family event!  Thank you to the Team Captains for recruiting walkers and raising funds - it is because of you that we had over 4,000 registered walkers and will meet our fundraising goal of $82,000. Thank you to family and friends that walked with us and/or made a donation to celebrate the life of a loved one with Down syndrome!

BUDDY WALK SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

10:30 a.m.  On-Site Registration For Those Not Pre-Registered Online

11:00 a.m.  Buddy Walk Kick-Off

11:30 a.m.  Lunch Is Served And The Festivities Begin

1:30 p.m.  Basket Drawing Lucky Winners Announced

2:00 p.m.  Festivities End And Clean-Up Begins

 
Prize Deadline:  The fundraising deadline for donations/registrations to count for team captain prizes is at 11:59 p.m. on October 8.  Click on the "Team Captain Packet" link above to see a list of the awesome prizes!
 
Online Registration and Donations:  Online registration for the Buddy Walk will be open through Friday, October 12; online donations will be accepted through Saturday, December 1.
 
Buddy Walk Parking:  Cars wanting to park on the Heartspring campus will be directed to enter Heartspring from the back entrance off of 32nd Street.  This year's satellite parking area is located at the Northrock 14 Theatre (3151 Penstemon), north of 29th Street behind Wal-Mart and Northrock Bowling Lanes. We will have free shuttle buses running throughout the day to transport people between Heartspring and the Northrock 14 Theatre parking lot.
 
No Pet Reminder:  A gentle reminder; we love our four legged friends, but we ask that you leave them at home on Saturday, October 13 for the Buddy Walk.  We have many young children that may be prone to poking, prodding, or otherwise harassing your fury friend as well as those folks that need assistance walking.  We would hate for there to be an incident outside your control that harms anyone or any animal.  Thank you!

The Buddy Walk® was created by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. The Buddy Walk has grown from 17 walks in 1995 to nearly 250 walks planned for 2012 worldwide. In 2011, more than $11.5 million was raised nationwide to benefit local programs and services, as well as the national advocacy initiatives of NDSS that benefit all individuals with Down syndrome.
